Evolution from a chemistry research institute to a Business Innovation Partner – ofi’s history of progress:

1946

Founding year of the association “Chemisches Forschungsinstitut der Wirtschaft Österreichs” (CFI)

1953

Establishment of “Österreichisches Kunststoffinstitut” which employed 4 people on a 190m2 facility in the Viennese Arsenal complex

1983–1986

CFI renamed to “Austrian Research Institute for Chemistry and Technology” (ofi). New focus on product testing lead to the establishment of the Paint Institute, the Sports Technology Institute, the Medical Products Institute, the Construction Institute and the Adhesives Initiative.

1993–2001

Integration of the present Packaging Institute into ofi; establishment of the Institutes for Eco-Technology and Adhesive Technology.

2002

The integration of the Institute for Structural Damage Analysis is yet another addition to ofi’s range of services. The same year ofi expanded its facilities by adding its Brehmstraße office. Today 140 employees work on a 4500m2 area, focusing on six main lines of business innovation.
